The 'Shady-ness' continues: Tempe supports club being 'bullied' by seniors

They don't call it 'Shady Park' for nothin'

HARK!

I hear....political explosions...

A recent HARK Valley 'Raising Canes' post outlined how residents of a new, high-end senior facility are coming off the top ropes on Shady Park, a Tempe live music/dance club that has been raising hell and blasting out high-decibel music for years--long before the ASU-owned Mirabella senior community opened.

After a judge sided with the senior facility, ordering tight restrictions on when Shady Park has to shut down the noised for the night, Tempe City Council surprised many by coming in on the side of the club. This week, Tempe Vice Mayor Randy Keating read a letter in support of Shady Park.

Keating's six colleagues signed the letter, which noted the many employees of Shady Park--and the idea that a city should have control over its own noise regulations, noting the ruling threatens to "cost many employees their jobs, and rob the City of Tempe of an economic and cultural asset."

Meanwhile, Shady Park is appealing the judge's ruling.
